North Carolina Election Footnote

Lost in the national importance of the North Carolina Democratic primaries was the defeat of North Carolina Association of Educators President Eddie Davis in his bid to win the party's nomination for state superintendent of public instruction. Incumbent June Atkinson won by a margin of 53%-47%.

I guess the union will have to control the North Carolina public school system the old-fashioned way - from the outside.

Take all the shots you want, but you will find no kinder gentleman than Eddie Davis. This is a loss for the entire state of North Carolina.

Unfortunately for Eddie, kindness alone hardly qualifies one for public office, even one as toothless as NC Superintendent of Public Instruction. There is no good at all, and much bad, that could have come from placing him in that position. The people of North Carolina dodged a bullet Tuesday.
