Regarding residency requirements for teachers….Those kinds of requirements can backfire in more than one way. It’s not just that many teachers teach in struggling public school systems that they would not want their own kids attending. I would love to live in the city where I work, but I can’t afford it. There were rumblings a few years ago about a residency requirement, until someone pointed out to a school committee member that they would have to raise teacher salaries or risk losing half the staff. Most of the teachers I know who live in-district are married to doctors and lawyers.
