Serendipity

After yesterday’s post, it is fortuitous timing to find a story in USA Today about the results from the latest civics literacy quiz from the indispensable Intercollegiate Studies Institute. It is sobering enough to discover that 71% of those surveyed failed the 33-question quiz, but even worse was the average score of 44% attained by current and former elected officials.

Less surprising is the news that the more TV one watched, the lower one scored on the quiz.

I invite everyone to take the quiz on the Internet. Evidently those who have done so are scoring significantly higher than those in ISI’s formal study. I’m proud to say I answered 32 of 33 correctly (missed the final one).

The last question is poorly worded, although having taken your comment as a kind of warning, I figured out what answer they were looking for. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay as much attention on question #27 and missed one that should have been easy.
