Sometimes You Can’t Be Obvious Enough
Apparently Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell has never heard of a place called “Maine,” because he is proposing a consolidation of the state’s 501 school districts down to a maximum of 100. This would increase the average district enrollment to about 17,400.
“Almost everyone agrees that Pennsylvania has too many school districts,” Rendell said.
Well, almost everyone who hasn’t looked at the research. Tim Allwein of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association has.
“The research does not show any significant savings nor does it show any increase in the educational product of school districts that have merged or consolidated,” he said.
