Twenty Questions for Educators

Nancy Flanagan at Teacher in a Strange Land puts a new twist on an old Internet meme by creating “Twenty Questions for Educators.” Nancy’s own answers are enlightening and I’m sure many others would be, too. Check it out.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Flanagan’s questions. I found myself agreeing with virtually all of her answers to questions that did not involve individuals she knew personally.

I taught for almost 40 years before retiring. My guess is that most long-term teachers would also find lots to agree with in her responses.

    Hey, Mike.

Thanks for the mention. I’m sure your Google reader is set to “unions” and that’s how Twenty Questions got picked up (smiling). BTW, I’ve now seen perhaps twenty more 20Q responses on the Teacher Leaders Network, Facebook and my own blog. Almost everyone answers the union question the same way: there is a role for teachers’ associations, but members wish they were more flexible in their thinking. Some people said that with a little more force…

And thanks for reading, Rich. I put the personal stuff in there so people would send 20Q to their friends. I really wish teachers everywhere would talk about big issues (rather than letting their associations do their thinking for them). But I’m happy when they talk about the micro things, too–a teacher who understands what made her favorite class a joyful experience is more likely to be able to replicate that, again and again.

    Nancy
