Serious Labor Troubles at NEA HQ
I’m working this story hard this morning, but right now all I have are unconfirmed reports that one of NEA’s staff unions took a strike authorization vote and could walk out as early as this week.
The staff contract, which I have been excerpting in the communiqué for the past several weeks, expired at midnight last night. Salaries are the main sticking point (see the last paragraph of item #3 here).
The last thing NEA wants is photos and videos of its own employees walking a picket line in front of its headquarters building, so I expect a management cave-in pretty quickly. If not, I’d love to see who crosses the line.
