I’m Spartacus!
Just when you thought theĀ Nevada student newspaper story couldn’t get sillier, the Churchill County Education Association sent an e-mail to members with the following message:
“This could be any one of us being drug (sic) through the media mud someday. I am calling all of you that are willing to stand together with Mrs. Kathy Archey, your colleague, to wear a button in support of her next week. We will have buttons delivered to each school (Monday or Tuesday) that say, ‘I am Kathy Archey.’ This is a time to support each other and to realize that there are many who still don’t value teachers and our right to due process.”
I don’t know how much heat Ms. Archey is taking up in northern Nevada, but the national media mud is being flung at the union’s hysterical overreaction, not at her. Knitting a flag after you tried to suppress someone’s First Amendment rights (even the ACLU agreed) isn’t the best strategy. Evidently CCEA realized this, and called off the button campaign.
Too bad, because I was looking forward to this scene in the school cafeteria:
