A giant corporation spent years trying to dodge its tax obligations but was finally brought to account by the U.S. Tax Court:
The National Education Association cannot claim a loss on its circulation expenses for two magazines it distributes to members as an offset to income from paid advertising in those magazines, a U.S. Tax Court judge in Washington D.C. has ruled.
The upshot is NEA owes the IRS $1.1 million in lost taxes on ad revenue from its publications during the years 2002 and 2003. But if you’re suffering from insomnia this Columbus Day weekend, you can read the entire ruling of National Education Association of U.S. v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue.
Editor’s note: EIA’s big move is complete. E-mail and snail mail addresses remain the same, but our new phone number is (916) 897-9529. There will still be some transition delays (I have no furniture in my office) but the communiqué will return on Tuesday with some exclusive news. Thanks for your patience while we get everything straightened out again.
