Teacher Shortage Alarmists Never Say Die

Written By: Mike Antonucci - Mar• 09•12

They were a little late with this edition, but California Watch still managed to produce its annual “California teacher shortage” scare story.

Of course, even the teachers’ unions have given up on that canard, and who can blame them, given recent circumstances. But this year’s story is special because it contains this quote from Teri Clark, director of professional services at the state Commission on Teacher Credentialing:

“Clearly, sometime – we don’t know if it’s one year, two years, five years, six years – sometime in the future, there’s going to be a teacher shortage because of the retirement and because the programs aren’t preparing the full volume.”

Congratulations! You have finally reached the level of understanding achieved eons ago by soothsayers and mystics who knew that if you just keep predicting the end of the world, eventually you will be proven correct.
