More on Gov. Dayton’s Math

Written By: Mike Antonucci - Jul• 03•12

Just for grins I checked another of Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton’s claims. He stated that K-12 education funding used to account for more than 50 percent of the state budget, and now it’s only 38 percent.

According to the state’s Management & Budget office, he’s correct that the K-12 slice of the pie is 38.4 percent, but I can’t identify when the halcyon days of spending more than half of the state budget on K-12 education occurred. The available information only goes back to Jesse Ventura’s 2000-01 budget, which allocated 33 percent to K-12 education.
