Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will be speaking to the delegates at 10 a.m. I’m not at the convention center, primarily because the security lines looked like this at 8:30…
…after which everyone is held hostage in the hall until the VP clears out. The speech will be carried live on C-SPAN3 and on UStream.
Tweet of the Day (so far):
I can’t believe I’m standing in a line to see Biden, again. #neara2012

Sixty-one new business items (NBIs) have been accumulated already, most of them from the California delegation, and most of those from those jolly jokesters in Oakland. Here are a few:
NBI 14: “The NEA will publicly oppose any policy of U.S. Military action against Iran and will restate our belief that diplomatic and nonviolent means are preferable in resolving international political differences.”
NBI 22: “NEA shall develop a long-term strategy to reverse Citizens United Supreme Court decision through an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”
NBI 25: “The NEA Representative Assembly calls for the immediate removal of Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education, and an end to Race to the Top.”
NBI 41: “NEA will encourage its state and local affiliates to help gather any written communications received from teacher recruitment organizations and/or their operatives that discourage member empowerment and activity in the work of the Association.” The rationale given is that “Operatives within organizations such as Teach for America (TFA) have in fact, and on occasion, sent written communications to their recruits that downplay fearless self-advocacy and engagement in protected activity.”
NBI 42: “NEA will inform our members and the general public that in 2005, Congress made student loans undischargable in bankruptcy, and the crisis this has caused.” (Or they could just watch Suze Orman on CNBC on any given week.)
NBI 52: “Using existing NEA teacher quality research, NEA will provide local leaders and affiliates with the tools necessary to actively combat the use of Teach for America (TFA) in school district contracts.” (I told you they don’t check last year’s NBI actions.)
Look for the day’s wrap-up late this evening.
