For an organization that induced 10 percent of its staff to take early retirement and otherwise removed about a dozen others, the National Education Association is in the process of hiring an awful lot of executives. There are 11 jobs listed, but if you want one you better act fast – my information is that three of those jobs have already been filled.
Your best opportunity lies in the national union’s Center for Communications, which is the reorganized public relations department. NEA’s communications office seems to undergo a revamp every few years, and the latest is being headed by Ramona Oliver, formerly of MoveOn.org, SEIU and EMILY’s List.
So if you’re heavily into media strategy, digital engagement or creative services, this could be your big chance to be on the receiving end of that bottomless supply of union dues. At least until the next reorganization.
