It isn’t unusual for union members to rally for a wronged employee, but it’s uncommon when the employer is a union, and even rarer when we get to see video of it.
The Oregon Education Association and its staff unions aren’t any further along in resolving their contract disputes (background here), and now they are hung up over what to do next. Management insists on going to binding arbitration. The professional staff union is balking because that would require waiving its right to strike.
Meanwhile, staffers are still upset about the way OEA management used sleight-of-hand to avoid seniority provisions. They demonstrated inside the OEA headquarters building last week to protest the layoff of the union’s communications officer and posted a video of the rally on YouTube. Here it is:
