It didn’t take long. Paul Ryan is now reaping the fruits of his sub-3 hour marathon fib. Any decent conservative should be able to withstand the slings and arrows of Paul Krugman, but Ryan’s miscue has now spawned the ultimate in ridicule: a web site, titled The Paul Ryan Time Calculator.
All you do is input your race distance, finishing time and gender, and the calculator spits out “Your Paul Ryan-adjusted time.” For example, my marathon best time of 3:43:34 (set in 2006, and yes, I remember every detail) adjusted to 2:42:00.
Strangely enough, using pace calculators caused a minor bit of embarrassment for National Public Radio. NPR ran a “Fact Check” column on the Ryan story and incorrectly computed what pace is required to run a 2:59 marathon.
