Court Adds Two Counts to Charges Against Maryland Union Treasurer

Denise Inez Owens, the former treasurer of the Worcester County Teachers Association, was indicted by a Maryland circuit court on five felony counts of theft, and an additional two misdemeanor counts of embezzlement/misappropriation stemming from her alleged pocketing of more than $433,000 in union dues meant for transmission to the Maryland State Education Association and the National Education Association.

Owens will be arraigned next week and is scheduled for trial on January 14.
