The Wrath of Conn

Written By: Mike Antonucci - Nov• 19•12

Back from his seven-month suspension for “physically imposing” himself on union officers, Steve Conn is once again challenging incumbent Keith Johnson for the presidency of the Detroit Federation of Teachers.

I don’t have any inside information on the possible outcome of the election, but it seems to me that conditions are better for Conn than they were in 2010. Membership is way down, dues revenues dropped more than 10% last year, and the remaining DFT members might find Chicago tactics more appealing this time around.

Keep an eye on this one, because if Conn wins, I guarantee we’ll be reading a lot of stories and op-eds in national publications about Detroit in 2013.
