Detroit President Re-Elected; Miami President Won’t Run Again

Keith Johnson was re-elected president of the 5,000-member Detroit Federation of Teachers with 670 votes, far outdistancing his main rival, Steve Conn.

Meanwhile, United Teachers of Dade president Karen Aronowitz announced she would not seek another term, making her the first UTD president not to depart in disgrace and criminal charges in 50 years. There will likely be multiple candidates from the union’s hierarchy to compete for the job.
