Yahoo! News reports that the Republican Main Street Partnership will drop “Republican” from its name and “welcome center-right Democrats” into the organization. The group supports moderate Republican candidates against what it perceives as more extreme alternatives.
The Republican Main Street Partnership has routinely received donations from the National Education Association ($20,000 in 2011), but it can’t be considered a sellout to liberal interests because it takes a lot of money from a lot of different interest groups.
The partnership served a purpose for NEA as a nod to bipartisan giving. I’m not sure if this name change now makes it easier for NEA to contribute, or harder.
