What Do You Do With a Closed School?

Written By: Mike Antonucci - Feb• 13•13

The Pew Charitable Trusts performed a unique service by examining what happens to school buildings once they are closed. It turns out they are often a drain on a district’s finances if not unloaded immediately. The abandoned buildings are not only an eyesore, but they naturally they become less valuable as time passes without occupancy.

The report itself is worth your time, dealing as it does with a rare topic, but the Trusts went one step beyond and produced this short video to accompany the report, which shows the impact on the neighborhoods not only of the closures, but of the presence of the empty buildings.
