Even NEA Dues Cut Will Result in Dues Hike

The National Education Association has determined that under the formula it uses for dues levels, teachers and other professional members will see a $1 reduction in annual dues for the 2013-14 school year, down from the current $180.

This would mark the first reduction in national dues, perhaps in the organization’s entire history. But before you get too excited, NEA coincidentally came up with an idea for a new by-law that would assess each certified member $3 per year to fund the union’s “Leading the Profession” agenda. Also coincidentally, this would raise annual dues to $182, the exact amount for which NEA had already planned its $339 million budget.
