Public School Staffing at Highest Level in Two Years

Written By: Mike Antonucci - Oct• 22•13

School districts across the country added 9,500 jobs last month, bringing the public education employee workforce to its highest level since August 2011.

The seasonally adjusted figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show 7,827,700 people are employed in “local government education,” which is the category that includes most public school teachers, administrators and education support employees.

The staffing numbers have been creeping up slowly, but are still about 286,000 positions shy of their apex of 8.1 million jobs in June 2009.
