Tennessee Education Association’s Finances

The Tennessee Education Association is smaller than it was 20 years ago and has lost more than 22 percent of its membership since 2010 – and that doesn’t even account for the more recent loss of the Memphis Shelby County Education Association.

TEA is selling its headquarters building in Nashville to a developer and purchasing the old Ben West Library building for $4 million. The union plans to make $8.5 million in renovations. TEA’s current building was assessed at $2.6 million in 2012.

Total membership – 46,057, down 3,685 members

Total revenue – $9.5 million (83.6% came from member dues), down $1.1 million

Deficit – $1.5 million
